You might remember that last year a number of us on Outreach filled in a survey about the levels of vitality of a music genre, as part of a post-doctoral research project by Dr Catherine Grant.
Dr Grant has shared with us the fruits of this work with a project website entitled "Music Vitality and Endangerment", that is now live at www.musicendangerment.com. Music Vitality and Endangerment brings together valuable information about the levels of vitality of genres of music around the world. You can browse by geographical location, viewing descriptions of each genre, alongside photos and videos of these musical genres. There is an FAQ section that explains the research method and approach taken to develop the content for the site.
Mapping musical vitality in this way shows how important digital tools can be in representing the status of musical genres around the world today.
Actually, this reminds me of the UNESCO Atlas located here:

A great way to bring attention to what is "out there"..
